Spirit Communication Through Mirror Neurons and My Podcast Interview

Recently I was researching the topic of animism and came across an interesting snippet of neural science that I thought I would share with you. Many times when either a friend or a loved one goes through a traumatic moment – let’s say a family member’s death – we are able to empathize with them because we have experienced this type of tragedy too. What allows us to be able to connect with this person on such a deep level? Here is where mirror neurons come into play.

“Mirror neurons represent a distinctive class of neurons that discharge both when an individual executes a motor act and when he observes another individual performing the same or a similar motor act. These neurons were first discovered in monkey’s brain. In humans, brain activity consistent with that of mirror neurons has been found in the premotor cortex, the supplementary motor area, the primary somatosensory cortex, and the inferior parietal cortex.”¹

In a nutshell, and from what we have learned from studying monkeys like the macaque, the brain has specific neurons designated for imitating actions that are observed. The majority of the data has been derived from the study of fMRI’s (Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging) and the results show that certain neurons will “mirror” a behavior just as if the observer were acting in the same behavior. These cells in the brain play a significant role in not only learning by imitation, but also a myriad of other activities:

  • Gives us our sense of self-awareness
  • Are linked to understanding goals/intentions
  • Intricately tied to the Theory of Mind², which is “the branch of cognitive science that investigates how we ascribe mental states to other persons and how we use the states to explain and predict the actions of those other persons. More accurately, it is the branch that investigates mindreading or mentalizing or mentalistic abilities. These skills are shared by almost all human beings beyond early childhood.”
  • These neurons, as already mentioned, are attributed to our ability to empathize with others.

Spirit Communication

What might mirror neurons have to do with spirit interactions?

There are many different ways that spirits can communicate with us. The most well-known techniques are through the ever-evolving paranormal investigation tools we have today. REM pods, digital voice recorders, EMF dectectors, EVP recorders, thermal scanners, and even flashlights rank on this list. But what about the personal, one-on-one interactions? Sure, mediums and psychics have an innate ability to reach spirits that common folks do not. Or do they?

As has been mentioned above, everyone has the ability to sense and predict other people’s behavior through observation. Mirror neurons give all of us this faculty to translate what we see into action. We carry this ability with us across the veil into the spirit world. How can we know this statement to be true, that spirits do utilize a type of mirror neuron?

Think about anyone who is close to death and entering into the hospice phase. In nearly every instance, when the point of death draws near, relatives and loved ones who have passed on come to visit. They are there to help the dying person to cross over the threshold of death. This act is a form of empathy and affirms the assertion that we do indeed keep the faculties of mirror neurons in the spirit world.

Think about a house haunting. The entity or entities on the premises will continuously observe its occupants and seek to imitate any fears or disturbances the spirit finds by providing them a tangible, physical reality. The entity does need a fuel source to do so and so any inanimate objects containing stored negative energy or the presence of limestone will function for this purpose. Batteries work well also. Nearly every paranormal investigator can affirm a ghost’s ability to utilize lithium power.

Is it possible that the existence of mirror neurons in both the physical and spiritual bodies might contribute to the function of paranormal activity?

Could these cells acting as a mode of empathy be just another means of spirit communication done so on a much deeper level?

The Podcast

I have deliberately brought you down this road of thinking so I might get you thinking about the many possibilities of spirit communication – especially this newest theory of mirror neurons.

Furthermore, I also want to get you thinking about the possibilities of limestone and its paranormal properties. In the link below you can listen in to an interview hosted by Mike Huberty of See You On The Other Side and myself.

In this podcast I mention one of my theories of how ghosts can harvest energy from limestone. I call this energy “paranormal plankton” because it can be scooped up just like baleen whales gather their food.

I would be honored if you would give it a listen and offer up your thoughts, comments, and feedback.

I’ll leave you with the sounds of Sunspot, Mike’s rock band. His three-member band put together a song for each of their podcasts, following the theme of the guest. Here is what they made for my interview, Captured in Limestone. I love it!!
